ShapeShift’s CEO Erik Voorhees expressed his disgust for Bitcoin maxis at the Bitcoin 2021 conference in Miami. He made his expressions through a podcast, citing that is not the Bitcoin community he is used to.
According to him, the behaviors he says made him give merit to altcoins. He was part of the panelists at the conference. He stirred the air when he opposed the notion that if anyone is against toxic maximalism, he is against bitcoin, by one of the panelists.Through the Unchained Podcast hosted by Laura Shin on Tuesday, he expressed his concerns of toxic behavior by the Bitcoin community to trash altcoin enthusiasts. It was a shame for a fellow panelist to advocate for that just because they feel bitcoin is superior.
Toxic maximalism was talked about at large, and it was embarrassing for him. He added that in all conferences he had attended before, he has never been that embarrassed or experienced the kind of toxic behavior like in 2021 one.
According to him, the main enemies of Bitcoin and Bitcoin communities are not altcoins but rather central banks, banking, and traditional currency. The doge or Ethereum c community has nothing to do with it.
ShapeShift is a Denver-based crypto exchange in Switzerland. In April, it fully announced an integration with cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) THORChain. The dex made it possible to trade Bitcoin, Ether, or Litecoin easily. This month has not been a good one for THORChain as it has suffered a minor breach and two major multi-million-dollar breaches from hackers. There are up to $7.6 million worth of crypto assets, and last week there were up to $8 million ETH stolen by a hacker.
As much as it has been a setback for THORChain, Voorhees remained positive as the DEX still has a long way to go. He added that the software is relatively new and has experienced some bugs, which is normal.
